The School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences (SPBS) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale announces two openings for tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Clinical Psychology. We are seeking two candidates who can contribute to either one or both of our two specialty tracks – Adult and Child clinical psychology. Area of research specialization is open, but candidates are expected to conduct productive and programmatic research and compete for extramural research funding. Candidates are also expected to teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses and are expected to mentor graduate students in research. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
Candidates are expected to conduct productive and programmatic research and compete for extramural research funding. Candidates are also expected to teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses. Competitive candidates will be able to supervise graduate students in practicum and are expected to mentor graduate students in research.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates for our clinical psychology positions must receive their Ph.D. from an APA-accredited program by August 11, 2026 and should be able to supervise graduate students in practicum.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with interest in teaching one or more of the following graduate courses: Clinical Skills, Multicultural Psychology, Supervision, or Ethics. Postdoctoral experience and eligibility for license as a Clinical Psychologist in Illinois are preferred. We are particularly interested in applicants who can serve as a mentor and role model for students in this program which is highly diverse and values social justice.

The Clinical program is accredited by APA, and our faculty members specialize in the areas of anxiety treatment, autism, forensic psychology/corrections, parenting, violence prevention, and neuropsychology, among others. We have a university-based Clinical Center, and a Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders. There are opportunities to collaborate with our faculty at these and other university centers, as well as with rural community mental health centers, substance use and neurorehabilitation facilities, SIU School of Medicine, the Bureau of Prisons, and juvenile justice facilities. The SIU Carbondale School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences is a vibrant and collegial academic unit that provides many opportunities for collaboration with faculty and students from programs in Behavior Analysis and Therapy (ABAI accredited MS), Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Clinical Psychology—Adult and Child (APA-accredited), and Counseling and Rehabilitation Education (CACREP-accredited MS). The school houses undergraduate majors in Psychology and minors in Psychology, Behavior Analysis, Parent Training, and Neuroscience. New faculty in the College of Health and Human Sciences are offered competitive startup packages, including graduate research assistant support, course releases, and summer salary designed to jumpstart research scholarship.
