Assistant Professor Cognitive Radar Signal Processing for Remote Sensing Applications

Job Description

At TU Delft’s Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems (MS3) group, you’ll be at the forefront of research in cognitive systems and remote sensing. Your work will have a tangible impact on diverse applications, from long-term medical monitoring that supports independent living for elderly individuals to enabling autonomous driving. Other applications include radar meteorology, sea state monitoring, subsurface sensing, bird species classification at wind farms, among others.

As an Assistant Professor, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting scientific research, developing and implementing innovative ideas in radar signal processing. Additionally, shaping your vision within scientific domains of radar remote sensing or/and joint communication and sensing;
  • Building and mentoring a research team of three to four PhD students, guiding them towards the successful completion of their research projects;
  • Establishing collaborations with industrial partners and securing research funding to support your projects;
  • Teaching and mentoring master’s and potentially bachelor’s students;
  • Developing and giving academically enriching courses to further enhance the curriculum.

Your work will integrate cutting-edge research, impactful education, and meaningful societal engagement, empowering you as a leader in your field. You will shape the future of wireless technology and inspire the next generation, all while advancing toward full professorship.

At MS3, you'll become part of a collaborative, supportive, and diverse team of professors, teachers, technicians, PhD researchers and master’s students. We are committed to fostering a welcoming, open, and inclusive environment where all members thrive. To support your growth in this Academic Career Track-position, you will receive a generous start-up package and professional development opportunities including leadership. Additionally, you’ll have access to Europe’s leading radar infrastructure, including our fully reconfigurable polarimetric wideband radars (PARSAX and MESEWI), our antenna measurement chamber (DUCAT), our millimeter-wave and UWB radar indoor laboratory as well as the first in European academia full-polarimetric active electronically scanner array radar PHARA, which is under manufacturing now.

Job Requirements

You thrive on generating and realising ground-breaking research and passionate about developing and implementing innovative ideas in radar signal processing. Your ability to translate research into practical applications, demonstrated through contributions to operational radar systems, impactful publications, and potential patents, will be highly valued. Collaboration is central to this role, and your communication skills will enable you to build networks within the faculty and beyond, fostering interdisciplinary cooperation.

We understand that excellence takes many forms, and we welcome applicants who are eager to grow into this role. At TU Delft, we believe in professional growth and are committed to supporting your development! If you are excited about this position but do not yet meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply.

You also have:

  • A PhD in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable research experience in one or more relevant fields, such as remote sensing, radar, sonar, ultrasound or telecommunication, and a drive to work and learn in the multidisciplinary domain of radar remote sensing.
  • A proven track record in your research field, as evidenced by refereed publications in top quality journals.
  • A passion for teaching and mentoring students, with the potential to become an inspiring educator.
  • An excellent command of English, as TU Delft is an internationally diverse community.
