Assistant Professor – Pediatrics, Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, invites applications for a full-time, non-Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position, (rank & tenure status are commensurate with experience) starting in July 2026. We are seeking an early-career scholar dedicated to the design, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs and research studies to join our faculty. The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing community-based research, strengthening public health infrastructure through strategic planning and data management, and securing extramural funding. This position is ideal for an applied researcher or practitioner with a passion for bridging academic research with real-world public health practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Design & Implementation: Lead and participate in the design, planning, and implementation of public health interventions in community or healthcare settings.
  • Data Management & Analysis: Develop, coordinate, and manage complex databases. Perform rigorous data cleaning and analysis, utilizing statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA) to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Grant Writing: Actively identify and pursue external funding opportunities (federal, foundation, and state grants) to support applied research initiatives.
  • Scholarship & Dissemination: Produce high-quality, peer-reviewed publications and present findings to academic and community stakeholders.
  • Teaching & Mentoring: Teach courses in epidemiology, program planning, evaluation, research methods, or grant writing at the undergraduate/graduate level; mentor students in applied research.

Salary range: Assistant Professor $120,000

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated experience in public health program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in data management, database creation, and statistical analysis.
  • Evidence of, or strong potential for, writing grants and manuscripts and securing extramural funding.
  • A record of, or potential for, publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in community-based participatory research or implementation science.
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting to diverse, non-academic stakeholders.
