Assistant Professor – Department of Mathematics and Statistics
The Department of Mathematics & Statistics invites applications from candidates for an 18-Month contract limited term (CLT) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Mathematics beginning December 1, 2025, and running to May 31, 2027. The department includes 12 professors and 3 instructors, approximately 70 majors across 10 programs, and provides service teaching to programs across the university.
The Department seeks a dynamic individual, who has a strong commitment to teaching. Duties for the position include teaching 2 or 3 mathematics courses per term for three terms (Winter 2026, Fall 2026 and Winter 2027). These courses will include lower-level courses such as introductory calculus, business calculus, discrete math, and matrix algebra courses, with the possibility of instructing labs for courses, as required. There will also be the possibility of teaching upper-level courses depending on the candidate's experience and expertise. All teaching is expected to be in-person at the Acadia campus in Wolfville, and most first year courses have multiple sections that are coordinated with multiple instructors and teaching assistants.
Candidates should provide evidence of performance and potential as a teacher, which can include past teaching experience, demonstration of teaching effectiveness, examples of innovative approaches to teaching, supervision of students, and ability and potential to participate in and contribute to the Department's programs. Applicants should also show evidence of developing scholarly activity, including, but not limited to, research and publications. The successful applicant will also contribute to the service activities of the Department, and should indicate previous contributions to a department, faculty, or university, including course and program development, as well as any contributions to the discipline or profession.
As outlined in the 16th Collective Agreement between the Faculty Association and the University Board of Governors, Acadia faculty receive a range of benefits, including extended health and dental benefits to complement the public system, relocation expenses, and professional insurance and registration fees.
Academic Qualifications: The successful candidate should hold a PhD in Mathematics or a closely related discipline, along with relevant teaching or work experience. Candidates with a Master’s degree and additional academic credentials may also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching introductory university mathematics courses.
How to Apply: Candidates are asked to submit their application in a single PDF document to Faculty.Careers@AcadiaU.ca. Receipt of the application will be acknowledged via email. Applications should include the following: the position number (include in the subject of the submission email); a cover letter describing how their experience is pertinent to Acadia and to this position, including expertise, experience, evidence of positive performance in teaching undergraduate mathematics, and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; an up-to-date CV; proof of academic qualifications; a list of additional qualifications; any additional documents; and the names and contact information of three references.
Applications should be addressed to Dr. Richard Karsten, Chair of the Selection Committee, Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada B4P 2R6.
The University welcomes applications from all qualified individuals; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. All applicants are required to submit an online Employment Equity Self-Identification Form as part of their application package.
