Positions: Assistant/Early Associate, Tenure-track
Location: Ithaca, NY. The academic home for these positions is the Department of Statistics and Data Science, housed on the Ithaca campus of Cornell University.
These 9-month, full-time tenure-track positions will be hired, one at assistant and one at assistant or early associate rank, in the Department of Statistics and Data Science. A track-record of publishing outstanding peer-reviewed scholarship is expected, as is excellence in and commitment to teaching, translation of knowledge, and advising and mentoring of students. We seek colleagues with an outstanding record demonstrating success and promise across all these areas, and who will be supported by and contribute to a vibrant culture of inclusive excellence at Cornell. The successful candidates will conduct research and teach in the areas of advanced data science, statistical methodology, or statistical theory to advance the mission of the department. Candidates will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses each academic year, as negotiated with the department chair, and should demonstrate a commitment to collaboration, collegiality, and building an inclusive academic environment. Opportunities exist for a faculty member to integrate departmental activities with broader university programs and the profession.
Responsibilities: These positions have an effort split of 50% research and 50% teaching.
Research (50%) - The successful candidates will develop and maintain an externally funded research program and peer-reviewed publications that apply advanced data science, statistical methodology, or statistical theory to advance the mission of the department.
Teaching (50%) - The successful candidates will each be responsible for three courses per academic year, as negotiated with the department chair, at the undergraduate and graduate level. SDS Faculty advise students in the department's undergraduate and Ph.D. programs. Advising postdocs is also encouraged.
Qualifications: Successful candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in statistics or a closely aligned field completed by the date of appointment and show promise of or have already developed a national reputation for their statistical methodology, statistical theory, and/or data science research. We seek innovative scholars who will develop a research program connected to university priorities.
These are in-person positions. The successful candidates will be expected to relocate within commuting distance of Ithaca, NY. Relocation assistance may be provided. Finalists for this position will be asked to sign an affidavit that they have not been found to have violated employer policies at their previous institution(s).
In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act Law, the annual base salary range is $90,000 - $135,000 if hired at assistant professor rank; $110,000 - $170,000 if hired at early associate professor rank. These pay ranges represent base pay (for a 9-month appointment). Cornell University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
