VCU Department of Economics seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in macroeconomics, broadly defined. Strong preference is for individuals with research interests to complement existing expertise in the department, which spans the intersection of quantitative macro, public, labor, and family economics.

Applicants should have an established research agenda, clear potential for external funding, and potential for high-quality scholarly publications.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Tenure-track Assistant Professors in the School of Business are expected to engage in high-quality, peer-reviewed research, deliver effective instruction at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and contribute to the service mission of the school and university.

  • Establish a focused and sustainable research agenda that contributes to high-quality, peer-reviewed publications.
  • Strive to produce impactful scholarly work that enhances the university’s academic reputation
  • Present research at academic conferences and seek feedback to strengthen scholarly contributions
  • Pursue opportunities for research funding and collaboration, with mentorship from senior faculty as appropriate
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, with a commitment to continuous improvement in teaching effectiveness
  • Design and deliver course content that fosters critical thinking, practical application, and student engagement
  • Hold regular office hours and provide academic mentoring to students
  • Participate in departmental and school-wide initiatives, appropriate with rank.
  • Serve on committees to engage with the process of faculty governance
  • Engage in professional development and networking to build scholarly visibility and enhance long-term contributions to the academic and business communities

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Economics or closely related field by August 2026
  • Demonstrated potential to conduct and publish high-quality scholarly research in peer-reviewed academic journals.
  • Evidence of, or potential for, effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that support engagement with students, faculty, and the broader academic and business communities.
  • Commitment to contributing to the service mission of the department, school, and university.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and contribute to the academic reputation of the department and school.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching practices

Salary Range:

$120,000-130,000
