The Education Department at Curry College invites applications for a full-time Special Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2026-2027 academic year to teach Special Education courses, lead a review and revision of our program's Prek-8 Moderate Disabilities Special Education curriculum, and collaborate as appropriate with Curry's Center for Neurodiversity Excellence.
The successful candidate will be an engaging educator and collaborative colleague with expertise in neurodiversity and PreK-8 Special Education pedagogy. This individual must be knowledgeable of state and national education standards in Special Education, along with relevant DESE curriculum frameworks and regulatory procedures to ensure successful outcomes for students and the continued approval of the program. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to teach coursework on IEPs, behavior management, inclusion, assessment, and assistive technology. In addition, the candidate will have the ability to supervise pre-practicum observations and practicum students, based on the candidate's DESE licensure area of expertise.
We seek a scholar-educator who actively connects theory and practice in the classroom, understands and applies current and best practices to pedagogy, and can advance the field of neurodiversity education. The successful candidate will bring a current understanding of pedagogical best practices to their teaching, scholarship, and service, their experience preparing Special Education teachers and a passion for mentoring young educators through their coursework and practicum experiences.
Candidates who have experience with culturally, academically, and economically diverse students are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to be an active contributor to the service of the department and to content areas in the department, depending on their area(s) of expertise. Doctoral degree preferred; minimum qualification is a master's degree with demonstrated progress towards a doctoral degree.
Only candidates who will have completed a doctorate degree by the position start date will be considered (ABD will be considered with a completion date before August 2026). Evaluations of candidates will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Teaching courses in Special Education to graduate and undergraduate education students;
- Lead a review and revision of Curry's Special Education curriculum;
- Collaborate as appropriate with Curry's Center for Neurodiversity Excellence;
- Teach other courses in Education depending on the expertise of the applicant;
- Advise and mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate level;
- Engage in service to the department in programming and curricular development, admissions and recruitment efforts, and other department initiatives;
- Support ongoing data collection and analysis to productively participate in program review and accreditation for undergraduate and graduate programming;
- Pursue a program of scholarly inquiry, including, but not limited to, presentations at conferences and publications in scholarly journals;
- Be technologically proficient teaching in on-line and hybrid/hi-flex environments and using LMS systems.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's Degree required; Doctorate or demonstrated progress towards a doctoral degree preferred;
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience Special Education curriculum DESE-approved programs;
- Demonstrated knowledge of DESE standards, processes, and requirements
- 6-8 years teaching and/or administrative experience in educational settings from Pre-Kindergarten through middle school;
- Demonstrated expertise in Special Education curriculum & pedagogy at the early education/elementary/middle school level;
- 1-3 years' experience teaching courses at the college level;
- Professional work style conducive to an active and professional environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-5 years' experience teaching courses at the college level;
- Successful experiences in educator preparation programs in a traditional higher education setting or other appropriate administrative role;
- Experience teaching/working in culturally, academically and economically diverse settings;
- Commitment to recruiting and teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices.
Salary:
Starting at $80,066 annually
