Assistant Professor (Exercise Science)
Description
The School of Human Sciences at SIU-Carbondale seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Exercise Science. This is a 9-month, continuing, tenure-track faculty appointment. Contingent on demand for teaching assignments, an additional summer session appointment is possible. The School of Human Sciences (https://schoolofhumansciences.siu.edu/) is a diverse academic unit that includes numerous unique opportunities for collaboration. We are housed within the College of Health and Human Sciences (https://chhs.siu.edu/) which is the largest College at SIU. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2025. Applications will be accepted after this date until the position is filled.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
- Teach exercise science courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Areas may include biomechanics, motor behavior, research methods, and basic exercise science. The teaching assignment will be based on the area of expertise of the chosen candidate.
- Initiate and implement a focused research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
- Advise graduate students and serve on thesis/research project committees.
- Secure external funding for research and training projects.
- Participate in professional associations and activities and University service appropriate to academic rank.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Exercise Science (or related field). Applicants who have completed all but the dissertation and who expect to complete all requirements for the doctorate prior to August 11, 2026, will be considered. If all degree requirements are not completed by that date, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy (https://policies.siu.edu/personnel-policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/faculty-contingent.php).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching capability in biomechanics and motor behavior
- Professional preparation, experience, and research interests in motor behavior
- Experience in serving on graduate thesis/research project committees
