Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Clinical Decision Support, Department of Community Health Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invites applications for a Contingent Term faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level. The role allocates 75% time for research with the remaining 25% allocated to teaching and service activities within the University.

This position will join the rapidly growing team of the Nelson PULSE Centre at the Cumming School of Medicine as it embarks on its mission of revolutionizing patient care through artificial intelligence-enabled clinical decision support (AI-CDS). Leveraging ethical and secure access to large-scale multi-modal digital health data (inclusive of medical imaging, ECG waveforms, electronic health information) curated from the province of Alberta, the candidate will be expected to develop a research agenda focused on multi-modal data integration and AI techniques towards the development of impactful digital health interventions. As a core member of a broad, trans-disciplinary team developing AI technology for population impact, the candidate will assist in developing scalable and repeatable frameworks for technology development, evaluation, and clinical translation in partnership with regional health authorities.

Required qualifications include a PhD or MD/PhD, with post-doctoral fellowship training, in a relevant field such as biomedical engineering, computer science, data science, (bio)statistics, operations research, or health services research, with a demonstrated focus on artificial intelligence in healthcare. Applicants must present evidence of research excellence in a relevant field, inclusive of a strong publication record with continuous publication in high-ranking journals, including as senior or first author. Applicants should have demonstrated an ability to work in or lead multi-disciplinary teams and have experience preparing peer-reviewed grant funding proposals. Evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision, innovation development and technology transfer, and established academic engagement in professional and other communities will be considered an asset.
