The Faculty of Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island, Department of English, welcomes applications for a tenure-track position, Assistant Professor level, beginning on July 1, 2026, in the field of Canadian Literature.

Candidates who have expertise in the fields of creative writing, coastal literature, environmental literature, post-colonial literature, and/or academic writing are strongly encouraged to apply. Flexibility to teach across a range of literary-historical periods at the undergraduate level is an asset.

UPEI's English Department has a strong reputation for excellence in teaching, and we welcome scholars who demonstrate effectiveness in the classroom and an interest in innovative teaching and learning. The capacity to develop courses cross-listed with other Arts programs (for example, History, Island Studies, Diversity and Social Justice Studies) would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to UPEI’s Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a PhD in English literature, a strong record in teaching at the undergraduate level, and demonstrated evidence of innovative research and publishing appropriate to the level of appointment. Salary will be determined according to rank and experience. This position is subject to budgetary approval.

Application Instructions: A complete application must include the following: a cover letter outlining how the candidate would contribute to the English Department in the area specified above, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier (to include a statement of teaching philosophy and sample syllabi of courses in the subject area, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of teaching success), a research statement outlining current and future research projects, and three academic letters of reference.

Candidates are encouraged to submit a one-page statement on how they will implement the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in their teaching, research, and scholarly work.
