Assistant Professor in Computational Nanoelectrochemistry
Job Summary: The position involves expertise in electrochemistry and computational chemistry within the Computational Chemistry theme of the Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Science (HIMS) at the University of Amsterdam. It is part of the Advanced Netherlands Institute of Nanoelectrochemistry (ANION), focusing on fundamental electrochemistry in nanoconfinement, including charge-transfer reactions and electrocatalytic reactions at nanoscale interfaces.
Responsibilities: Conduct state-of-the-art research in topics such as DFT-molecular dynamics simulations for electrochemical systems, adaptive hybrid quantum/classical multiscale simulations, treatment of electrocatalytic reaction networks, development of advanced ensembles for electrochemical simulations, 'beyond-DFT' methodology, non-adiabatic electron transfer, nuclear quantum dynamics, and the use of AI and machine learning for nanoelectrochemical processes. Contribute to the educational chemistry curriculum and perform organizational tasks.
Qualifications and Requirements: A PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline, an outstanding track record in computational chemistry (e.g., electronic structure calculation, DFT-based molecular simulations, multiscale modelling, machine-learned potentials, or AI/ML techniques). Be a renowned scientist with high-impact publications and invited lectures, successful in acquiring research grants, participate in chemistry education programs, increase research visibility, promote societal relevance, contribute to institute organization, and possess cross-cultural sensitivity, organizational talent, and team skills. Willing to obtain a Teaching Qualification within three years and learn Dutch within five years.
What the Employer Offers: A temporary contract for 18 months, potentially leading to a permanent contract. Gross monthly salary between €4,728 and €6,433 based on 38 hours per week, plus 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end allowance. Possible '30% ruling' for non-Dutch applicants. Benefits include 232 holiday hours, courses on teaching and leadership, birth leave, parental leave, pension contributions, and the possibility to set up a home workplace.
