Assistant Professor in Health Services Management

Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Health Services Management (HSM) within the School of Business Management, in the Ted Rogers School of Business Management at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU, formerly Ryerson University) invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor effective July 1, 2026, subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will engage in a combination of scholarly research or creative activity, teaching and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Teaching duties will entail teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervision of students and curriculum development. The successful candidate will pursue a strong, innovative research program or creative activity that is externally funded and that produces cutting-edge, high quality results.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Health Administration, Health Policy, Health Management, Health Informatics or a closely related field by the appointment date.

  • strong emerging scholarly research that is current, innovative and impactful as evidenced by, but not limited to, peer reviewed publications, working papers, public policy contributions, presentations at academic conferences, professional contributions, research-related awards and other writing that contributes to the visibility and prominence of the discipline; research collaborations or strong potential/ability to attract industrial and community collaborative initiatives; the capacity for effective research training;
  • demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at all levels of the Health Services Management undergraduate curriculum and suitability for teaching in graduate programs, as evidenced by a teaching dossier that includes a teaching philosophy statement, experience with course and curriculum review and/or development, examples of best practices in pedagogy, including effective use of classroom technology and any experience with experiential learning, sample syllabi, strong teaching evaluations, teaching awards, and other relevant achievements in teaching;
  • a commitment to our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; consistent with TMU’s mission, vision and our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion;
  • and an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Ted Rogers’ School of Management and the wider University through collegial service.

As a member of the Migrant Integration in Mid-21st Century: Bridging Divides (BD) Research Program, the successful candidate will be actively involved in strengthening the Bridging Divides research program in the thematic area of: Health and Wellbeing.

This position falls under the jurisdiction of the Toronto Metropolitan Faculty Association (TFA) www.tfanet.ca. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

The Department of Health Services Management at Toronto Metropolitan University offers two unique undergraduate pathways for future leaders in healthcare management. Our Bachelor of Health Administration (BHA), specifically designed to assist health related professionals interested in advancing into management positions in health service organizations, while the new Bachelor of Commerce (BComm (Hons)) in Health Services Management blends business expertise with healthcare knowledge, preparing graduates to lead and innovate across Canada’s healthcare system.

In particular, the Department of Health Services Management is looking for exceptional candidates with proven expertise in leveraging and applying innovative/emerging technologies in healthcare management within areas of artificial intelligence, health informatics, health policy, and program evaluation through existing and new collaborative initiatives involving researchers within TMU and other national and international universities.
