Assistant Professor in Intelligence and Security
The Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) aims to appoint one Assistant Professor with specialisation in Intelligence and Security. The successful candidate will have demonstrable research expertise in themes related to the vacancy and a strong teaching background in intelligence and security, or a related field, as well as in topics related to the Institute’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programme offerings. The candidate will be expected to teach across several programmes in the Institute, notably the Master’s programme Crisis and Security Management, the Bachelor programme Security Studies, and our Minor in Intelligence Studies. The position is aimed at strengthening the Institute’s teaching, research and grant-acquisition capacities in a phase of continuing growth and exciting interdisciplinary research opportunities.
The successful applicants will be expected to: Develop and teach courses in Intelligence and Security Studies; Conduct independent research on topics related to Intelligence and Security Studies; Generate high-quality output in both academic and non-academic outlets, with a focus on international, peer-reviewed journals; Actively contribute to the renewal and ongoing improvement of educational practices at Bachelor’s and Master’s level; Work within a multidisciplinary team of colleagues and support the development and implementation of the research strategy of the Institute; Supervise thesis and capstone projects; Take on administrative and coordination tasks within the Institute and beyond; Acquire external funding and manage research and training projects.

FGGA is one of the seven faculties of Leiden University and includes the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), which specialises in security issues with local, national, transnational and global impact.
What you bring: PhD degree in relevant fields; Demonstrable research experience; Outstanding research qualities; Demonstrable excellence in research-led teaching; Ability to teach across security-related themes; Commitment to an interdisciplinary academic community; Excellent command of English; Willingness to master Dutch; Command of diverse research methods; Growing network in the field; Ability to connect research to policy; Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualifications (UTQ) within two years.
What we offer: An employment contract for one year with a view to permanent employment; Salary of €4728—€7297 per month; Holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, pension scheme; Full reimbursement of commuting costs; Flexible working hours; Options for secondary employment conditions; Hybrid working possible.
