Assistant Professor in Microbiology and Immunology

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Université de Montréal is the only French-language institution of its kind in North America. It stands out for the excellence of its research and training on its two campuses one in Saint-Hyacinthe, at the heart of Québec’s agri-food region, and the other in Rimouski, within a rich coastal environment. The Department of Pathology and Microbiology stands out for the expertise of its professors and the quality of its teaching to our student community, interns, and veterinarians in theoretical, practical, and clinical training.

The department aims to restore, protect, and promote the health of domestic animals, livestock, and wildlife. With this in mind, it encourages transdisciplinary collaboration that integrates the “One Health” concept into teaching and research activities.

The undergraduate doctoral program in veterinary medicine offered at the Rimouski Campus, in collaboration with the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR), aims to train versatile veterinarians capable of meeting the diverse needs of communities located outside major urban centers.

Day-to-day responsibilities
Through your undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, and your research activities, you will contribute to the faculty’s pursuit of excellence. Furthermore, you will promote your discipline and actively participate in the daily activities of a renowned institution. As such, you will:

  • Teach courses focusing on microbiology, infectious diseases, immunology, and an introduction to research;
  • Participate in teaching and supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows;
  • Develop an innovative and autonomous research program related to immunology or infectiology; particular attention will be given to programs favoring collaboration between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR), on themes applied to the health of wildlife, river and/or marine ecosystems, or fishing and aquaculture systems, or any other proposal in the relevant field;
  • Obtain research grants from external organizations while promoting interdisciplinary collaboration in research projects;
  • Participate in the institution's outreach activities (publications, conferences, expertise, scientific events and other activities, etc.);
  • Contribute to the operation and development of the Department, the Faculty, and the Université de Montréal.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Ph.D., with experience in a related discipline relevant to the position;
  • Hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.M.V.) degree or equivalent;
  • Have research experience in a relevant field, with demonstrated expertise in veterinary infectiology and/or immunology;
  • Demonstrate ability to provide high-quality academic teaching and supervision;
  • Demonstrate potential for obtaining research grants;
  • Demonstrate potential to develop internal, national, and international collaborations;
  • Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
