Assistant Professor in Screenwriting and Adaptation (2-year Limited Term Appointment)
The Department of English and Film Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a two-year Limited Term Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Screenwriting and Adaptation beginning July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval.
Anticipated Salary Range: $90K to $110K. Actual salary to be commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will have expertise and publications in Screenwriting, Intermedial Adaptation, and/or Creative Writing, with a PhD in Film Studies, English, Creative Writing (or related field). University teaching experience is required.
We are seeking a writer with an active record of publications and teaching experience who operates at the intersections of filmic and literary studies, and can contribute to our department’s thriving undergraduate programs. The successful candidate will be expected to teach five one-term courses per year, to maintain a robust research agenda, and to engage in academic service. The Department currently offers a variety of courses in screenwriting, literary and film adaptation, creative writing, graphic novels, and popular culture. We would also encourage the candidate to develop new courses or special topics to complement departmental strengths. The department’s MA and PhD programs offer additional teaching opportunities for candidates with PhDs.

Qualifications:
- Required: PhD in Film Studies, English, Creative Writing or related field (in hand as of July 1, 2026)
- Required: Postsecondary Teaching Experience
