Assistant Professor in Social Work

General Summary

Eastern Michigan University’s (EMU) School of Social Work (SSW) is now accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This position is part of a university-wide interdisciplinary cluster hire focusing on college students' mental health and well-being. This position is a full-time, eight-month academic appointment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will teach courses in our BSW and MSW programs. The BSW program focuses on generalist practice, while the MSW program offers advanced training in interpersonal practice. The social work program provides flexible programming and caters to a diverse and non-traditional student body. MSW classes are scheduled evenings and Saturdays to accommodate student schedules, while undergraduate courses have both day and evening scheduling. Candidates will have responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service within the SSW, the Mental Health Collaborative cluster, the College, the University, and the larger community. Participation in the cluster collaborative will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant will have an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and have earned a DSW or PhD in social work or a closely related field conferred before the beginning of employment. Candidates must also have the equivalent of at least 5 years of full-time, post-MSW degree social work experience. Candidates should have an established research agenda and interest in college students’ mental health and well-being.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have practice experience and scholarly expertise relevant to the needs of culturally diverse populations and demonstrate a commitment to social justice.
