The Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Sociology. The department offers Bachelor and PhD programmes in Sociology, and Master programme in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and there is a productive and diverse faculty drawn from many parts of the world, including the United States, Canada, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao. We have a strong research portfolio focusing on 1) ageing, demography, family, and health, 2) computational social science, qualitative, and quantitative methodology, 3) comparative, cultural, and political sociology, and 4) criminology and criminal justice. Qualifications

Applicants should have obtained a doctoral degree (or close to completion) in sociology or related areas. We welcome candidates from all major areas in sociology, but preference will be given to those with a specialization in gerontology, and with research and teaching experience at the tertiary educational level.

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2026.

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
