The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Subsurface Resource Engineering. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed upon date.

Position Description: We are seeking an emerging scholar with a strong background in subsurface resource engineering. The successful candidate will develop an original, innovative research program related to subsurface resources, contributing to sustainable energy solutions. Application areas include geothermal energy extraction, cleaner oil recovery, decarbonization, carbon sequestration, hydrogen recovery, subsurface characterization, reservoir engineering, and enhanced petroleum recovery processes.
The candidate will contribute to supervising graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and provide service to the Department, School, University, and community. They will also support equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible practices.
Position Requirements: Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, or a related discipline, and a Ph.D. in engineering related to subsurface resource engineering. Requirements include a strong research record, teaching experience, and eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a track record of high-quality research, potential to establish a strong research program, attract funding, supervise trainees, teach effectively, and align with university strategic plans and commitments to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
