"Assistant Professor"

Job Summary: As an assistant professor in environmental economics, you will be a member of the Environmental Economics section at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) of VU Amsterdam. The role involves research in themes such as sustainable food, ecosystems, biodiversity, and/or sustainable finance, teaching in BSc and MSc programs, developing a research program, conducting research, attracting funding, and handling organizational duties. Approximately 40% of time is dedicated to research, 40% to education, and 20% to organizational tasks.

Responsibilities:

• Develop a leading research program and build a team in your field of expertise.
• Acquire external research funding and submit applications for research with societal impact.
• Teach at BSc and MSc levels, including thesis supervision.
• Contribute to organizational tasks of the institute.
• Maintain high-quality publication output.
• Initiate collaborative projects within and beyond the university and work in teams.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Hold a PhD in Environmental Economics.
• Have a strong research interest and academic track record in environmental economics with a clear methodological focus on quantitative methods.
• Be committed to academic teaching in Environmental Economics and Sustainability for interdisciplinary student groups.
• Demonstrate academic leadership, value teamwork, and have a keen interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and generating societal impact through applied research.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Applicants without a background in economics will not be considered. Appointments beyond Assistant Professor level are not offered.

What the Employer Offers:

• A salary ranging from €4,728 to €6,433 gross per month based on full-time employment.
• A position for at least 0.8 FTE, initially for 18 months, with potential for permanent employment after evaluation.
