The Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience Program within the College of Science and Mathematics at Augusta University is actively seeking candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor position, anticipated to begin in Fall 2026. This role is primarily focused on teaching (80%) and overseeing the continued development of our rapidly growing Neuroscience program. In just three years, the program has expanded from 16 students to over 100, reflecting strong demand and institutional commitment. This is a distinctive program - one of only three Neuroscience programs within the University System of Georgia (USG) - and it serves a critical need for preparing students for careers in neuroscience, medicine, and related fields. We seek a dynamic educator who will help sustain and grow this program while fostering excellence in undergraduate education.

Primary responsibilities include teaching AU students in courses such as Introductory Neuroscience, Neurobiology, and Neuropharmacology, coordinating curriculum and contributing to program development. Faculty in this position will also be able to develop additional courses that will increase the course offerings within the program. The position also includes a service component (10%) and a research/scholarly activity component (10%), with an emphasis on engaging undergraduate students in meaningful research experiences. This is a non-tenure track position dedicated to teaching and program administration.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching - 80%: Teach and coordinate Neuroscience courses as assigned, develop innovative instructional strategies, and oversee the continued growth and quality of the Neuroscience program.
  • Research - 10%: Engage in scholarly activities and research that involve undergraduate science majors.
  • Service - 10%: Serve on committees and perform other duties as assigned to support the department and college.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. or similar terminal degree in Neuroscience or a closely related discipline. Expertise to teach courses such as Neuroscience, Neurobiology, and Neuropharmacology. Ability to contribute to program development and student success.

Assistant Professor - Early career faculty level

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching Neuroscience at the undergraduate level.
  • Experience coordinating courses and instructional laboratories.
  • Demonstrated ability to support program growth and innovation.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
