The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of northern Manhattan, NYC is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The successful applicant will be a clinical provider on the Neuropsychology Service in the Department of Neurology, Division of Cognitive Neuroscience and will be appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

The Division of Cognitive Neuroscience, led by Dr. Yaakov Stern, is committed to advancing understanding of and treatment for cognitive disorders through innovative research, exemplary patient care, and outstanding training programs. The Neuropsychology Service provides comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations of adults and older adults with a broad range of neurological diseases and disorders. The Service focuses on clinical evaluations, but some providers carry limited psychotherapy/rehabilitation patient caseloads and/or provide skills-based group treatments for neuropsychological deficits associated with movement, memory, and functional neurological disorders.

The Service is staffed by four full-time clinical neuropsychologists, two of whom are board certified in clinical neuropsychology by ABPP, one of whom is board certified in both clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology by ABPP, and one of whom provides services in both English and Spanish. Patients are referred by neurologists in the Divisions of Aging and Dementia, Movement Disorders, Neuro-Oncology, and General Neurology. The metropolitan NYC area, and the Washington Heights community in particular, allows providers to see patients from a wide variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Providers on the Service have full administrative support as well as psychometrist support for a portion of cases.

Primary Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Conduct comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations of patients referred from within the Department of Neurology. At least 50% of referrals come from the Division of Aging and Dementia, a designated Center of Excellence by state agencies and patient advocacy organizations for its high standard of care for individuals with neurodegenerative disease.
  • Have the opportunity to supervise pre-doctoral externs and post-fellows enrolled in our high-quality and well-established training programs.
  • Collaborate with neurologists, psychiatrists, and other medical specialists to support patient care, research, and teaching.
  • Contribute to ongoing clinical research conducted by the Division’s world-renowned research team as a consultant or co-investigator, as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, or a related field from an APA- or CPA-accredited program.
  • Completion of a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology consistent with Houston Conference Guidelines.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a psychologist in New York.
  • Board certification or eligibility for certification in clinical neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).
  • Clinical experience in the neuropsychological evaluation of adults and older adults, particularly in aging, dementia, and general neurological disorders. Recent fellowship graduates will be considered.
