The Department of Biology at California State University San Bernardino invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Biology with research expertise in organismal plant biology, to begin August 2026.

The Department of Biology is committed to student success and seeks a colleague who will employ evidence-based methodologies to promote fairness to all and strives to continually improve learning outcomes in the classroom. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program, as well as design and teach lecture and laboratory courses in subjects such as comparative plant morphology, plant physiology, local flora, plant biology and diversity, or plant development. We expect opportunities to develop and teach upper division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for extramural funding, conduct and publish research in organismal plant biology, and employ laboratory and/ or field research involving undergraduate and Master’s students. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to service and shared governance to the department, college, and university. Additionally, the successful candidate will preferably take over the role of the CSUSB herbarium curator. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biology or a related field; postdoctoral experience is highly desired.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biology or related field is required by time of appointment
- Publication record in plant biology
- Experimental expertise applicable to undergraduate and Master’s level research in organismal plant biology
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Postdoctoral experience
- University-level instructional experience in plant biology
- Potential for developing an externally funded research program
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in research

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biology has 15 tenure-track/tenured faculty with a variety of research interests, as well as lecturers and technicians who provide essential support. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has facilities for 3D printing, fluorescence microscopy, cell culture and stem cell research, animal care, and plant growth. The CSUSB herbarium hosts a small collection (about 4,000 specimens) of mostly local flora. In addition, the department has access to the College of Natural Science’s Electron Microscope and Image Analysis Center (EMIAC).
