Assistant Professor of Biology / R0079172
The University of Arkansas seeks applications for a full-time (9-month) tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Biology (R0079172) to begin August 2026. The Assistant Professor of Biology teaching duties include the department’s core courses and classes in comparative and experimental physiology, developmental physiology, or evolutionary developmental biology. The candidate is expected to complement and enhance the existing strength of the department by establishing an extramurally funded research program and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students within their area of expertise. Service to the department, college, and the university is expected of all faculty. Review of applications will begin January 5, 2025, and continue until the position is filled. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a metropolitan, state-supported, public research university. The Department of Biology (https://ualr.edu/biology/) has 15 faculty members with expertise in molecular and cell biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, plant physiology, biotechnology, and neuroscience. We offer a B.S. degree in Biology in five concentrations: General Biology, Ecology and Organismal Biology, Molecular Biotechnology, Clinical Biology, and Secondary Education. Both M.S. and M.A. degrees in Biology are granted at the graduate level, and a Ph.D. is offered through a joint program with Applied Science.
Little Rock’s central location in Arkansas provides resources for both ecological and clinical research. The region has diverse habitats for conducting environmental and ecosystem-based research and field work. Furthermore, as the largest metropolitan city in the state, opportunities at local, state, national, and international levels abound. Residing in the capital city, faculty and students can interact and collaborate with nearby environmentally-oriented government agencies(e.g., Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission) as well as non-governmental organizations (University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, National Center for Toxicological Research, The Nature Conservancy), and to experience the local and regional culture.
Required Education and/or Experience: Earned Ph.D. in Biology, with a focus on developmental biology, embryology, or organismal biology.
Preferred Education and/or Experience: Minimum of one year of postdoctoral experience, experience teaching and developing courses in comparative and experimental physiology, developmental physiology, or evolutionary developmental biology, evidence of a strong commitment to student-centered instruction and evidence-based teaching methods, evidence of a commitment to science education outreach and/or community engagement, knowledge of different methods of student learning and assessment, and a track record of research productivity.
