The Department of Business Administration in the Williams School of Commerce, Economics & Politics at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a tenure track position as assistant professor in strategy. The appointment will begin July 1, 2027.
Faculty in this position will teach and develop courses in organizational-level strategy that support the Business Administration major. We seek candidates whose teaching and scholarship examine how organizations create, adapt, and sustain value in dynamic business environments. A successful candidate will help students understand how firms formulate, evaluate, and implement strategy while responding to technological change, evolving competitive conditions, organizational complexity, stakeholder expectations, and increasing uncertainty.
We seek candidates who are excited by the opportunity to help shape this area of the curriculum by developing innovative courses that complement existing departmental strengths while expanding opportunities for students. Areas of particular interest include corporate strategy, technology strategy, mergers and acquisitions, strategic leadership, corporate governance, strategy implementation, strategic decision making under uncertainty, and related areas of organizational-level strategy.
This position requires a strong commitment to excellence in teaching within an undergraduate liberal arts setting. We are particularly interested in candidates who value interdisciplinary studies and can integrate their course content with other disciplines. Additionally, candidates with expertise or experience in diverse pedagogical techniques and a strong interest in experiential learning are highly encouraged to apply.
The school calendar consists of two 13-week terms, one in the fall and one in the winter, along with our unique 4-week spring term. The regular teaching load is five courses per year. New hires teach a 2-2 load in their first year.
In addition to a passion for innovative undergraduate teaching, we seek candidates who demonstrate the capacity to publish scholarly research in business and related fields, and who are enthusiastic about making service contributions to the W&L community. To support faculty research agendas, the university has a generous five-year sabbatical cycle as well as a pre-tenure research leave program.

The expected salary for this position is between $175,000 - $185,000. Offers are based on factors such as relevant education, experience, tenure status, internal equity, and market and organizational considerations.

Qualifications
A Ph.D. in a relevant field and demonstrated teaching effectiveness in strategy are required. For candidates starting in the Fall 2027 term, ABD candidates must present evidence that their dissertation will be defended by July 1, 2027. Candidates must have some teaching experience.
