Assistant Professor of Cardiac Sciences (Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinician Scientist), Department of Cardiac Sciences, Cumming School of Medicine

The Department of Cardiac Sciences, in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, in conjunction with the Libin Cardiovascular Institute invite applications from early career Cardiac Electrophysiology Clinician Scientists for a Tenure Track (contingent) appointment at the Assistant Professor level. This position offers 75% protected time for research with the remaining 25% of time committed to clinical duties.

Qualifications include relevant medical training and experience in adult clinical electrophysiology, MD and Fellowships or equivalent, and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. A PhD degree and/or equivalent research training and experience is an asset. The successful candidate must be able to establish an externally funded (at the level of Tri-Council or equivalent peer reviewed National/International organization) research program, a strong publication record as evidenced by publication in high-impact journals, including as senior or first author. Applicants will need to be able to show evidence of established academic engagement in professional and other communities.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience in the use of stem cell models of cardiac differentiation and disease including isogenic human induced pluripotent stem cell models to generate both two- and three-dimensional cardiac tissues. Along with proficiency in the modelling of proteotoxic conditions including biophysical and biochemical characterization of amyloidogenic precursors, intermediates and fibrils as well as their effects, with a focus on genotype/phenotype correlations relevant to human disease. Interest in, and demonstrated ability to, successfully develop patient-derived models of inherited arrhythmia syndromes. The successful applicant will have demonstrated success integrating the priorities of clinical and translational research stakeholders to maximize the impact of bench to bedside projects. The successful applicant will have demonstrated ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students and train highly qualified personnel in cell culture as well as standard molecular biology and biochemistry laboratory techniques along with ability for the teaching and supervision of clinical learners.
