Assistant Professor of Communication
Job Description
SVSU invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Communication to begin July 1, 2026. Applicants must have acquired their Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Specific teaching responsibilities (24 credit hours/year) will include General Education Courses in Communication (Fundamentals of Communication, Public Speaking, Argumentation). The successful applicant will also demonstrate expertise in Sports Communication and an area of public address, such as Oral Performance Studies, Persuasion, or Forensics, and will be expected to participate fully in departmental activities, such as advising students, recruiting new students, and supporting outreach initiatives. Additionally, an active program of research appropriate to the applicant’s specific interests and experience is expected.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Duties are generally performed inside and not exposed to adverse conditions.
- All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Communication or a closely related field
- Expertise in Sports Communication and an area of Public Address
- Demonstrated success in teaching General Education Communication courses
- Proven record of scholarly activity
- Experience teaching and mentoring a broad spectrum of undergraduate students.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.
