Position Highlights

The School of Dance at the University of Arizona seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance position, beginning in the Fall 2026 semester.

We welcome applicants from a broad spectrum of dance practices with expertise in Jazz, Hip-Hop, Commercial styles and/or Vogueing. The successful candidate will teach studio practice and lecture courses and create concert performance works. The candidate will contribute to the School of Dance through teaching, creative or scholarly research, collaborative initiatives, and service to the community as assigned at the School, College, and University levels.

A nationally ranked program, the School of Dance fosters a student-centered and engaged learning environment that encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, and conceptual analysis skills. We maintain a unique focus on performance, choreography, and pedagogy to prepare students for professional careers. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Foster a pluralistic learning environment and a sense of dignity, belonging, and empowerment for all students.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, faculty governance, and administrative responsibilities of the School and College.
  • Contribute to collaborative initiatives across the College of Fine Arts, Arizona Arts division, and the greater university.
  • Collaborate effectively with the School Director, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop undergraduate/ graduate curriculum.
  • Contribute to public engagement, leadership, partnership, or outreach with a range of communities.
  • Maintain teaching and creative/research activities with an ongoing professional practice; activities should advance a national and/or international research profile of creativity in choreography, publications, performance, or other relevant practices.
  • Candidates may also teach the following dance practices/courses:
    • Choreography
    • Business/Careers in Dance
    • Teaching Methods
    • Dance History-including global histories
    • Dance Technology and Digital Media
    • General Education Large Lecture Courses in-person/online
    • Improvisational Forms
    • Music and Dance Collaboration
    • Other courses as assigned and contingent on the expertise of the candidate hired for this position

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to problem-solve, collaborate, and work well with others.
  • Ability to foster among students a sense of belonging and opportunities for personal growth and development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MFA in Dance or equivalent professional field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant professional experience as a performer, choreographer, and/or dance artist.
  • At least three years or more teaching and choreographing experience at the university level or professional equivalency.
  • Strong professional experience in teaching at least one of the techniques or style listed in the Position Highlights.
  • Experience mentoring/applying new pedagogies and classroom strategies to advance fair and accessible learning opportunities.
