Job Summary
The Angelo State University Natalie Zan Ryan Department of English
and Modern Languages is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor
of English, specializing either in pre-Civil War American
literature or post-World War II American literature. The position
also includes teaching core curriculum courses in writing and
literature, advanced undergraduate courses, and graduate courses
for the online English MA program. The successful candidate will be
broadly trained in American literature beyond their research
specialization.
Essential Duties
The dedicated educator and scholar will teach a range of courses
across the English curriculum, including:
- First-Year Composition
- Sophomore-level American Literature
- Upper-division undergraduate English courses
- Online graduate-level English courses
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to
excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities
include:
- Engaging in scholarly research and publishing in the
candidate’s area of specialization
Advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
Participating actively in departmental, university, and
community service
Contributing to curriculum development and program
enhancement
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
- English composition and American literature.
- Current trends, research, and scholarship in English studies
and the candidate’s area of specialization.
Skills
- Teaching first-year composition and literature courses.
- Instructional design and curriculum development for
undergraduate and graduate courses, including online delivery.
- Written and verbal communication.
- Organization, time management, and prioritization.
Abilities
- Design and deliver engaging instruction across undergraduate
and graduate levels, including online formats.
- Mentor and advise students effectively.
- Collaborate professionally with colleagues and participate in
academic governance.
- Contribute to departmental, university, and community service
initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in English or a closely related field ( ABD considered
with expected completion by start date)
- Evidence of effective teaching at the college level
- A record of or potential for scholarly publication
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with online instruction is preferred
