Job Description

The Department of Geography and Urban Sustainability at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, lead GIS and Remote Sensing laboratories, and mentor students in spatial data analysis, environmental mapping, and geospatial modelling. Applicants are expected to have a strong applied background in geospatial technologies and the ability to integrate modern analytical tools such as AI, machine learning, and cloud-based platforms into teaching and research.

Minimum Qualification

• Ph.D. in Geomatics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, or Geospatial Science, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university.
• Advanced expertise in geospatial analysis, satellite image processing, and spatial modelling using software such as ArcGIS Pro, ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, Google Earth Engine (GEE), and QGIS.
• Strong ability to apply AI and Deep Learning techniques.
• Experience with geospatial data processing and satellite images.
• Excellent teaching and communication skills with a proven record of delivering applied training and laboratory instruction.

Preferred Qualification

• Teaching experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, and Environmental Applications, including both theoretical and practical components.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and managing geospatial laboratories, creating geodatabases, and designing applied student projects.
• Proficiency in Python and Google Earth Engine (GEE) for automated geospatial analysis and environmental monitoring.
• Ability to teach AI-driven spatial modelling and integrate emerging technologies into the GIS/RS curriculum.
• Experience providing professional training to government employees, university students, and research teams.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines such as Urban Studies, Environmental Management, and Sustainability Science.
• The candidate must demonstrate a good H-index.
• The candidate must maintain a consistent record of research productivity.
