Job Summary:

Position Description

The Department of Biological Sciences in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) seeks to recruit up to four full-time equivalent (9-month appointment) non-tenure system faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach undergraduate and/or graduate lecture and lab-based courses in biological sciences. The Department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant community of researchers and educators that prioritizes the effective training of its students. An ideal candidate is an experienced and dedicated educator focused on student success across all classrooms and laboratories. Courses are often taught in multiple sections by a collaborative group of faculty and teaching assistants, so excellent team-work and communication skills are essential. The candidate will lead biology-based courses and aid in the development of curriculum geared towards an active learning environment. We are especially interested in candidates who have the flexibility to teach evening and/or weekend sections, and/or are interested in developing course-based research experiences for our undergraduate students.

The appointment commences for the fall 2026 semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: A master's degree in a relevant discipline in the biological sciences is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences. The position requires experience in preparing laboratory reagents and media along with experience operating and maintaining general laboratory equipment (e.g. microscopes, pipettors, spectrophotometers, etc.)

Preferred Education and Experience: A PhD in a relevant discipline in the biological sciences is preferred along with experience as a teaching assistant or instructor in college-level laboratory and/or lecture classes.
