Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Tell School of Music at Millersville University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach guitar students in our Music Industry, Music Education, and BA programs. The candidate must have experience with guitar techniques for jazz, classical, and current popular genres. The majority of guitar students are Music Industry majors and focus on popular commercial music genres. A temporary, part-time studio instructor is responsible for teaching individual half-hour and hour-long studio guitar lessons each week, as well as leading a weekly hour-long masterclass for guitar studio students.

The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.

  • Copies of registrar-issued transcripts for all degrees conferred and in progress.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Music or BA degree in guitar performance with 15 additional graduate credits in music.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of guitar commercial and classical Pedagogy.
  • Ability to teach diverse student populations successfully.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diverse student populations.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful teaching demonstration for teaching studio guitar.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or ABD in Music.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
