Assistant Professor of Instruction in Public Health
Position Description
The Department of Health and Human Performance is seeking applicants to fill a non-tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach in the undergraduate and graduate public health programs at Texas State University. Applicants with expertise in all areas related to public health, community health, health promotion, or health education are invited to apply.
This position is a non-tenure-line, nine-month faculty of instruction position. The individual selected for this position will be expected to teach graduate level and undergraduate courses, as departmental needs require. Other responsibilities will include service to the department and the university, community outreach, mentoring graduate students, and general academic and career advising and assistance.
The Department of Health and Human Performance, with over 40 full-time faculty, serves approximately 2,400 students seeking undergraduate and graduate degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise & Sports Science, Public Health, Recreation & Sport Management, and Recreational Therapy. Texas State University also offers a comprehensive employee wellness program led by an interdisciplinary research team that provides opportunities for collaborative studies.
The public health program offers a BS in Public Health, an MS in Public Health Education and Promotion, and recently launched an interdisciplinary MPH with concentrations in community health & behavior and epidemiology.
This position is subject to the availability of funds.
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, DrPH) in public health, health education, health promotion, health behavior, or related field by date of hire.
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate students.
- CHES/MCHES or CPH eligible.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrable evidence of high-quality teaching public health, health education, health promotion, or health behavior courses at the university level.
- Demonstrable evidence of using a variety of instructional strategies, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid delivery, experiential learning, or field-based experiences to engage students.
- Commitment to working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other institutional employees.
- CHES/MCHES or CPH certification.
