Description:

The University of Oklahoma College of Law invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment to join our collaborative legal research and writing faculty team beginning in Fall 2026. This position is part of a Ranked Renewable Term career track with voting rights, eligibility for promotion, and opportunities for renewable, multi-year contracts. Our mission statement and other information can be found at law.ou.edu.

LRW is required for all first-year students and is taught as a two-semester, five-credit hour series of courses. Each legal writing professor teaches approximately 42-47 students per semester, though numbers vary with enrollment. Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent research and writing skills, diagnose legal writing difficulties, and mentor students in one-to-one and small-group settings. Our legal writing faculty members follow a common syllabus for the first-year LRW courses, work collaboratively to develop writing assignments, and provide each other with significant support. In addition to teaching in the first-year legal writing program, these appointments will offer the option of teaching upper-level writing classes on a rotating basis. We particularly welcome candidates who are knowledgeable about generative AI in legal research and writing, who are interested in thoughtfully incorporating these tools into the legal writing curriculum, and who are eager to help evolve legal writing pedagogy in response to emerging technologies.

All legal writing faculty members are expected to coach and travel with at least one team in the College of Law's moot court program and take on regular committee assignments and other service obligations.
