Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Dean, the faculty member is responsible
for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned
graduate courses. The faculty member will serve as a mentor to
students; contribute to department and university activities as
needed; and provide service to faculty and/or university committees
as outlined in the faculty handbook.
The Department of Learning & Teaching offers credential
programs in Multiple Subject (elementary), Single Subject
(secondary), and Educational Specialists (Mild to Moderate Support
Needs, Extensive Support Needs, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing).
Common responsibilities for the position include teaching in the
programs, student advisement, and service to the university and
broader community.
Representative Duties:
- Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching 24
units/year.
- Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab,
or performance courses; create assignments and activities in
one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings
for development of cognitive abilities, communication skills, and
higher order thinking skills among students.
Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course
objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments,
projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a
timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during
established consultation office hours.
Integrate current and emerging instructional delivery
technologies into the learning process across classroom and online
settings.
Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment,
attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum; prepare
and submit grades, data, and reports related to course and student
progress in a timely manner.
Teach and hold office hours in person on campus, at least 4
days per week.
Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within the
first week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook.
Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising,
service, and scholarly, professional, and creative activities for
Assistant Professors as outlined in the faculty handbook.
Participate in service to the department, school, university,
and P-22/K-12 community.
Attend departmental and school-wide meetings.
Support teacher candidates in completing their edTPA.
Contribute to accreditation activities as needed.
Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Performs related duties as assigned.

teacher candidate assessment (i.e., edTPA).

professionals available to students.
- Methods of gathering, analyzing, and preparing data.
- Modern computing technology.
- Record keeping techniques for student enrollment, attendance,
and progress.
Ability To:
- Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject
field or discipline.
- Mentor and support African American, Latinx, and Native
American students.
- Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse
academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of
university students.
- Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of
students with disabilities.
- Oversee curriculum development and revisions for the department
and review and assess academic programs offered by the
department.
- Deliver course curricula in various learning styles.
- Integrate current and emerging instructional delivery
technologies into the learning process to enhance teaching and the
educational experience.
- Maintain professional standards that protect student
confidentiality.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using tact,
patience, and courtesy.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of
action.
- Work constructively with colleagues and treat faculty, staff,
administrators, and students with respect and professionalism.
- Demonstrate commitment to professional excellence and
continuous growth within subject field or discipline.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a master's degree in education, educational
leadership, special education, or a related field and P-22 teaching
experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Possession of an appropriate earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.)
in education, educational leadership, or a related field (required
for tenure track positions; ABD will be accepted).
- 3-5 years of K-12 experience with evidence of sustained
teaching effectiveness and research to drive instruction.
- Understanding of bilingual and dual language immersion
education and effective biliteracy instruction within California
K-12 schools.
- Successful involvement with university-public school
partnerships.
- Pedagogical experience with hybrid or online teaching
strategies.

productivity machinery; stationary position for extended periods of
time; move or transport light objects; position self to store

Working Environment:
Indoor classroom environment; subject to visiting a variety of
classroom sites on campus.
