St. Catherine University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program, beginning June 1, 2026. We seek a dynamic and collaborative faculty member with expertise in Archives, Special Collections and Preservation to join our vibrant academic community serving distance learners. Position is Hybrid. Primarily remote, but in-person attendance on campus for graduations and other similar special events in the life of students is expected as well as occasional trips to access the University Archives/Special Collections for purposes of lecture preparation. This is a 9/12 contract with the typical nine month graduate teaching load of 6 courses spread across the twelve months of Summer, Fall and Spring semesters.
Responsibilities:
- Teach graduate-level courses in archives, special collections, preservation, core required Information and Library Sciences courses, and related areas.
- Teach, if needed to fill course load or if interested, in the Undergraduate General Ed (Core) Curriculum.
- Engage in scholarly research and publication per contract type as indicated in the faculty handbook.
- Advise and mentor MLIS students, especially in the archives pathway.
- Supervise and assist students in locating appropriate internships, field-work and practica as related to Archives/Special Collections/Preservation experiences.
- Participate in service to the department, university, and profession per Faculty Handbook.
- Assist Program Director, as required, with admissions and recruiting of students by communicating with potential students in Archives/Special Collections/Preservation and occasionally representing the program at recruiting events.
- Keep current in trends and developments in the field of Library and Information Science with particular attention to the area of Archives/Special Collections/Preservation.
- Contribute to record-keeping, reporting, and other duties associated with maintaining ALA accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications:
A MLIS or equivalent degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
At least 2 Years Professional experience in archival or related settings.
Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service, particularly in adapting instruction for archival/preservation/special collections hands on techniques for online courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in either Library and Information Science or a field appropriate to work in Archives/Special Collections such as History, Art, Archival Studies, Museum Studies, etc.
Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends in archives and digital preservation.
Has experience with best practices for archival equity and activism related to inclusive and reparative practices that reflects St. Catherines' vision and mission.
