Position Summary: Bowdoin College's Department of Mathematics invites applications for two full-time tenure-track faculty appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2026. The first position is in statistics, and candidates must hold a Ph.D. in statistics or a closely-related field by the time of the appointment.
The second position is in applied mathematics or statistics and is focused on the areas of dynamics, stochastic processes, complex systems, or statistics. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. We especially encourage applications from candidates whose research and/or work with students is grounded in, and can engage with, questions in environmental or climate science, public health, epidemiology, or other fields of social importance.

Candidates must be committed to undergraduate teaching and bring a promise of long-term successful scholarship. The regular teaching load is two courses per semester. Bowdoin College offers substantial opportunities for professional development, including a fully-funded, pre-tenure sabbatical year (following three years of teaching and successful reappointment), and regular, funded, post-tenure sabbaticals. Additional resources for faculty development are available in the form of teaching development programs, grant-writing support, internal research grants, funded summer research students, an extensive high-performance computing cluster, and staff for computing and software support. The College also offers robust programming and resources for establishing and enhancing mentoring networks. College-wide initiatives in artificial intelligence and community partnerships are available to all faculty.
