Teaching, research, and service. The position carries a standard teaching load of three courses each Fall and Spring semester. Other responsibilities include research in the field of mathematics, advising students, and service to the department, college and university. Other Specifications/Instructions for the Position: Submit an AMS cover sheet, a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research statement, copies of all transcripts and at least three letters of reference, at least two of which address the candidate's research potential and at least one of which addresses the candidate's teaching. The review of candidates will begin on November 16, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. Sam Houston State University is a comprehensive public institution of higher education located in historic Huntsville, 60 miles north of Houston. The university has an enrollment of about 21,000 students. In 2022, SHSU received new designations as a Hispanic-Serving Institution ( HSI ) and as a High Research Activity Institution (R2 status) by the Carnegie Commission. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 28 tenured or tenure-track faculty in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. We offer BA, BS, MA and MS degrees in Mathematics, a BS degree in Data Science, and a MS degree in Statistics, along with several minors and certificate programs in these content areas. The department is actively involved in undergraduate research and developing innovative teaching methods that encourage students to be more actively engaged in the study of mathematics.
