"Assistant Professor of Mathematics"

Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Austin Peay State University invites applications to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching courses in mathematics content and pedagogy for pre-service elementary, middle school, and high school levels at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as graduate courses for in-service teachers. A typical teaching load is four 3-hour courses per semester.

Austin Peay State University is a regional university with a strong tradition of teacher preparation and community involvement. Mathematics Education faculty work closely with the College of Education, the Office of Teacher Education and Partnerships, and with teachers in the local school systems.
Emphasis is placed on excellence in teaching, commitment to service, potential for scholarly activity, and collegiality.

Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required occasionally.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• A doctoral degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education (Ph.D. or Ed. D.) is required by August 1, 2026.
• The applicant should be an active member of appropriate national, state, and local mathematics education organizations, should have demonstrated excellence in teaching, demonstrated knowledge of appropriate instructional technology, a commitment to continued professional growth, and a willingness to work with other faculty members. Experience in K-12 teaching is preferred.
• Excellence with written and oral communication in English is required.
• A background search will be required of the successful applicant.
