Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Job Description
The Norwich University Department of Mathematics invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics, commencing in Fall 2026. This position is open to all specialties and the department is interested in candidates with strong teaching records and/or experience conducting research with undergraduates. Responsibilities of the position include teaching, advising, maintaining an active program of scholarship, and engaging in service at the department, college, and university levels. The normal teaching load is 21 contact hours per academic year (9-month contract).
The successful candidate will have a passion for bringing excellent teaching into the classroom and will be able to engage our undergraduates in the discovery of mathematics. All applicants must have demonstrated commitment to working with a student body that is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, culture, academic interests, and career paths. Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds is essential. We strongly encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups.
Our department currently consists of six tenure-track faculty positions, four full-time lectureships, and several part-time adjunct positions. Introductory courses are generally limited to a maximum of 30 students, while enrollment at the junior/senior level is typically in the low teens. Tenure-track faculty members enjoy funding opportunities to attend conferences, engage undergraduates in research, and further their own scholarship. Current departmental research interests are diverse and include actuarial science, differential equations and their applications, graph theory, set theory, real analysis, and statistical analysis. Departmental course offerings support the Mathematics major, general education goals, and a variety of programs across campus including majors in engineering and computer science.
