POSITION DESCRIPTION
The School of Music in the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Music Education with an emphasis on Instrumental (Band) Pedagogy to begin September 1, 2026.

MAJOR/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
As a faculty member in the School of Music, you will be expected to:
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in music education, including band techniques and methods courses on a variety of wind, brass, and/or percussion instruments.
- Participate in ongoing reviews of student progress and readiness for entry into the music education profession.
- Recruit and retain a talented cohort of graduate and undergraduate students to programs within the School of Music and College of Visual and Performing Arts.
- Direct graduate and undergraduate student research including service on thesis and dissertation committees.
- Participate in outreach and engagement with the music education community.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Evidence of research and/or publications that demonstrates emerging or established national/international recognition in music education.
- Demonstrated familiarity with current trends in public/private school music education;
- Ability to work collaboratively with music education colleagues and current practitioners in the public/private schools.
- Demonstrative effectiveness as a communicator in written and spoken forms.
- Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in instrumental (band) music education.
- Clear potential to obtain external funding and support to continue research agenda in music education.
- Active engagement in professional organizations with demonstrated potential for future leadership.
