ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MUSIC - VOICE - TENURE-TRACK, JOB CODE: 12019
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will join TWU's vibrant music faculty in preparing music students for 21st century careers. The Division of Music has an enrollment of approximately 275 music majors. Bachelor’s degrees are offered in music education, music therapy, musical theatre, performance and liberal arts. Additionally, master’s degrees are offered in music education, music therapy, performance, and instrumental, piano, or vocal pedagogy.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will: Teach applied voice to undergraduate and graduate students in classical and contemporary vocal styles. Teach courses in the musical theatre degree program, such as Voice for Musical Theatre, Musical Theatre Repertoire, Musical Theatre Scene Performance, Auditioning for Musical Theatre. Teach additional voice-related courses such as vocal pedagogy, literature and diction. Recruit and mentor voice students, especially those in musical theatre, performance and pedagogy tracks. Collaborate with the coordinator of Vocal Studies and the Artistic Manager of Musical Theatre on program design, productions and recruitment. Direct, choreograph, and/or music direct in the mainstage Musical Theatre season. Assist with administrative duties within the voice area. Maintain an active profile of professional creative/scholarly activity. Participate in university, college and division service.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold a terminal degree in Voice or Musical Theatre; non-terminal degrees considered with extensive professional experience. Evidence of successful teaching at the college/university level. Experience with innovative and engaging teaching strategies that focus on the needs of 21st century students.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with recruitment and retention of varied student populations.
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a coach or director for opera and/or musical theatre productions at the college or university level.
- Preferred voice types include soprano and mezzo-soprano.
- Evidence of a successful and accomplished performing career.
- Professional experience in musical theatre or CCM settings.
- Active participation in professional music/musical theatre organizations.
- Graduate study in vocal pedagogy.
- Strong communication and organizational skills
