Assistant Professor of Nursing, Fixed-Term (Non-Probationary), State University Faculty
The Department of Nursing Science at St. Cloud State University invites applications for full-time Fixed-Term (Non-Probationary) Assistant Professor of Nursing position. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BS), including a traditional pre-licensure program and a fully online RN-to-BS completion program. The nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
The pre-licensure BS program is a 68-credit major designed to prepare caring, competent, and practice-ready professional nurses for contemporary and evolving health care environments. The curriculum emphasizes clinical judgment, critical thinking, evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and population health across the lifespan in alignment with the AACN 2021 Essentials and Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) framework.
The Department houses a state-of-the-art simulation lab, the Jim and Ann Marie Maciej Nursing Education Suite, supporting experiential learning and clinical judgment development.
Work Modality
This is a fixed-term (non-probationary) position focused on excellence in teaching, clinical instruction, and student success. Scholarship is not required for tenure but engagement in evidence-based practice and program improvement is expected. This is a primarily in-person, on-campus faculty position. Teaching responsibilities include face-to-face didactic instruction, laboratory and simulation teaching, and in-person clinical supervision at affiliated health care agencies. While some courses may include hybrid or online components, regular on-campus presence and participation in department, college, and university activities are expected.
Primary Responsibilities
Faculty responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service consistent with Minnesota State and St. Cloud State University probationary faculty expectations.
Teaching
- Teach undergraduate didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical nursing courses.
- Integrate clinical judgment, NGN-style assessment strategies, and active learning methodologies.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate nursing students.
- Mentor and collaborate with adjunct clinical faculty to ensure course consistency and quality.
Scholarship
- Establish and maintain an active program of scholarship consistent with tenure expectations.
- Engage in evidence-based teaching and clinical excellence.
- Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement.
Service and Leadership
- Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to accreditation activities (CCNE) and regulatory processes (Minnesota Board of Nursing).
- Engage in department, college, university, and community service.
- Collaborate with clinical partners and community health agencies to support student learning and workforce needs.
Educational and clinical experiences in the department prepare graduates to practice in culturally diverse, rapidly changing health care systems. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Salary Range: $64,963 - $188,620/annually
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Nursing (MS, MSN) from an accredited program required
- Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, EdD) preferred OR progress toward doctorate encouraged but not required
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States and eligibility for Minnesota RN licensure by the date of hire.
- Minimum of two years of recent professional clinical nursing experience (within the past five years).
- Evidence of ability to teach in clinical, lab, simulation, or didactic settings demonstrated through:
- Clinical instruction
- Precepting
- Staff education
- Adjunct/guest teaching
- Professional presentations
- Effective communication (oral/written/interpersonal)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively
Preferred Qualification
- Earned doctoral degree (PhD or DNP) strongly preferred
- Teaching experience in a baccalaureate nursing program, including didactic, clinical, laboratory, or simulation instruction
- Experience with:
- AACN 2021 Essentials
- Next Generation NCLEX (NGN)/Clinical Judgement Measurement Model (CJMM)
- Active learning strategies
- Content expertise aligned with program needs:
