Job Description Summary:

Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) on a 9-month tenure-track appointment with potential to teach in the summer for extra compensation. While all areas of expertise will be considered, the following areas of scholarship are desired: pediatric motor speech disorders, dysphagia, craniofacial anomalies, neurogenic communication disorders, special populations. Responsibilities could include in-person teaching undergraduate, master's and doctoral level students, conducting research in area of expertise, pursuing extramural funding, directing undergraduate and graduate student research and participating in departmental and university service.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders or related field at the time the appointment begins. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching college-level courses and a solid record of scholarly or creative productivity or substantive evidence of research/creative potential. Outstanding candidates who are in the final stages of dissertation writing (ABD) will be considered.

If the candidate fails to complete the doctoral degree by Aug. 16, 2026, the position will revert to an instructor position and instructor pay. The offer will be withdrawn if the Ph.D. is not earned by May 15, 2027.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.

Desired Qualifications:

Evidence of research interests and abilities, an interest in pursuing external funding, and evidence of promise in teaching. Prior record of peer-reviewed journal publication and grant experience. Having CCC-SLP and potential for Alabama license.

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and has over 300 undergraduate majors, 50 graduate majors in speech-language pathology, and 35 doctor of audiology students. Presently, the department has 19 full time faculty positions (11 PhD, 3 AuD, and 5 master's level). The program offers a Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology. The department also offers a professional Doctor of Audiology degree and the Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language and Hearing Science. Beginning in Fall 2026, the department will accept the inaugural doctoral student class into the PhD program. The Department was the 3rd in the nation to be CAA accredited and is accredited in both speech-language pathology and audiology.

Salary Range: 70,000-80,000
