The professor of practice position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty appointment with the primary responsibility of delivering high-quality instruction and fostering student success in the mechanical engineering program. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses, utilizing innovative pedagogical methods to engage students and prepare them for professional careers.
Please Note: The salary is determined in accordance with the University's compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates' education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Engage in continuous professional development.
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and potentially graduate-level courses in a range of mechanical engineering topics, such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics and solid mechanics.
- Prepare course materials, including syllabi, lectures, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Plan and conduct laboratory sessions and supervise student projects, including capstone projects.
- Utilize and promote various teaching methods and technologies, including e-learning platforms and computational software.
- Administer and grade exams, assignments, and other student work to assess progress and ensure alignment with accreditation standards (e.g., ABET).
- Hold regular office hours to provide academic support, advice, and career guidance to students.
- Mentor students who are completing projects or require assistance with course content.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- 5 years of industrial experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to teach effectively at the college level
- Good communication skills, both written and oral
- Practical knowledge of engineering science and technology applications, including relevant software and lab equipment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Prior teaching experience at the university level.
