"Assistant Professor or Associate Professor at Waseda Institute for Advanced Study"

Waseda Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) was established in September 2006 to enable promising and talented researchers to focus on their research activities under fixed-term contracts in a rich research environment. Waseda University announced in a message issued by the president on June 20, 2025, that the university would provide support to early-career researchers facing difficulties in continuing their research activities in the United States. Based on this announcement, WIAS encourages researchers to apply for this position who meet the following qualifications.

Appointment Positions: Assistant Professor (non-tenure-track) or Associate Professor (non-tenure-track). Note: Appointment positions will be determined based on the results of screening and interviews.

Period of Employment: Three years from the date of employment (in principle April 1, 2026; December 1, 2025 may also be possible only if approved by the University. Details are available upon request.)

Application qualifications: Researchers who are currently affiliated with or have been offered and accepted a position in the university or research institute in the US, and who satisfy either of the qualifications below (a. or b.) will be considered. a. Persons with a doctorate, preferably granted after April 1, 2016. b. Persons who are expected to obtain a doctorate by the time of appointment. Research fields: Fields within the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences

Salary: Salaries are paid in accordance with Waseda University regulations. Examples of annual salaries (taxes included): Assistant Professor (non-tenure-track): Age 30: about 5.1 million JPY per year; Age 35: about 6.5 million JPY per year. Associate Professor (non-tenure-track): Age 40: about 7.9 million JPY per year.
