Job Description Summary: The University of Kansas Health System Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is seeking a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist for a full-time Assistant Professor position. The position will be based primarily at our health system hospital locations within the Kansas City metro area and may include some travel for responsibilities at outreach facilities. Cytopathology fellowship training and board certification / eligibility is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities will include general surgical pathology and cytopathology sign-out with a large volume of gastrointestinal biopsies, as well as frozen section services, and clinical pathology responsibilities such as medical directorships. Consultation services from main campus Department of Pathology faculty are available for a broad and inclusive range of anatomic and clinical pathology subspecialties. Opportunities for research collaboration and resident teaching are also available for interested candidates.

The department and health system are experiencing rapid growth, both at the University of Kansas Hospital and the Community Division hospitals, performing over 5.5 million tests and accessioning over 63,000 surgical pathology cases annually. The University of Kansas Health System is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, which provides rich opportunities for clinical and translational research, both within the department and within the Medical Center.

Job Duties

  • Participate in Diagnostic Sign-Out of Three to Five Subspecialty Areas
  • Participate in General Surgical Pathology Frozen Section Services
  • Teach Residents and Medical Students as well as Translational Research is Available for Those Interested

Required Qualifications

Education: M.D., M.D./Ph.D., or D.O.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

License/Certification:

  • Board Certified or Eligible in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology
  • Eligibility for Medical Licensure in Kansas is Required

Preferred Qualifications

License/Certification:

  • Board certified or eligible in Cytopathology

Experience:

  • Fellowship training in Cytopathology
