Assistant Professor, Psychology
The School of Psychology at Xavier University invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track, faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning Fall 2027. The position will support our APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral (Psy.D.) program and our undergraduate psychology major.
The Psy.D. program has a strong record of success, including 10-year accreditation status with APA. The program draws highly competitive applicants from across the country and admits cohorts of approximately 18 students each year. Students receive generalist, practitioner-scientist training, along with specialized coursework in one or more focus areas: Child and Adolescent, Individuals with Severe and Chronic Problems & Psychopathology (ISCPP), and Healthcare Psychology (HCP). Over the past five years, 94% of our students have matched to an APA accredited internship site and 98% of our graduates are licensed psychologists.
We also have a thriving undergraduate major (170-200 students) and minor (70-75 students) in psychology. Undergraduate psychology majors all participate in at least one research project, with students presenting annually at regional conferences. The School of Psychology offers an honors thesis option for our majors, and recently implemented our first specialization (industrial-organizational psychology). Equipping students with the empirical and critical thinking skills needed to effectively serve others is central to our undergraduate focus. Faculty teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
The teaching expectation is 18 credit hours annually when a tenure-track faculty member meets the College’s active scholarship requirements. Tenure-track faculty are also expected to develop a program of research, mentor graduate and undergraduate research, provide service within the School of Psychology and University, and may provide clinical supervision to Psy.D. students.
Candidates should have earned a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or related program, and must also be licensed or license-eligible in the state of Ohio (expectation of Ohio license within one year of hire). We invite individuals of various theoretical orientations and areas of clinical expertise to apply, and are especially interested in candidates with any of the following:
- Expertise in development, children, and/or adolescents;
- Capable of teaching and supervising cognitive assessment;
- Training in clinical neuropsychology, particularly as relates to the prior two needs;
