Assistant Professor Secondary Social Studies Education
Job Summary
Reporting to the Middle Grades and Secondary Education department chair, the Assistant Professor in Secondary Social Studies Education requires teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The position is an academic (10 month), tenure-track appointment.
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctoral degree in Secondary Social Studies Education, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Social Studies Education and/or Social Studies content, by August 1, 2026.
- Minimum of three years of effective full-time teaching experience in social studies grades 7-12
- Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the department, college, and university
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience effectively teaching secondary education courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level(s)
- Experience in the supervision of pre-service teacher candidates and/or practicum students in field placements
- Qualifications to teach in other areas of teacher education
- More than one year full-time teaching experience in US public schools
- Demonstrated effectiveness teaching and working with a broad range of student backgrounds, educational needs, and achievement levels
- Experience in a variety of public school settings
- Experience using technology in instruction, particularly in online and/or hybrid settings
- Established record of a program of research and scholarship focused on issues in secondary social studies education
- Experience with school-university partnerships
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
