Assistant Professor, Teaching (Cognitive Psychology)

The Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Teaching-stream position with a focus in Cognitive Psychology. This is a Limited Term Appointment (LTA) beginning July 1, 2026 and continuing for a duration of three years.

Candidates will have the opportunity to join a leading Psychology Department at one of Calgary's top universities. The department is home to 34 faculty members and 900 undergraduate majors in psychology. Our faculty members include award winning course instructors and educational leaders who offer a diverse curriculum that spans the field of psychology. Our undergraduate teaching program has won awards and is considered a leader in pedagogy and best practices in teaching.

We are seeking applicants with expertise in the area of Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, or Cognitive Development. The position is expected to be 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% maintaining currency in one's professional field.

Strong applicants will be dedicated and experienced educators who are passionate about classroom teaching, student mentorship, curriculum development, assessment design, and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and who indicate a potential for growth in the areas of educational leadership, and maintaining a pedagogy that prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Successful candidates should have documented teaching and course design experience as indicated by a teaching-dossier, including a teaching philosophy and a reflective and self-evaluative statement of one's teaching strengths and areas for potential growth. Experience teaching in-person as compared to solely online will be considered an asset. Strong candidates will possess diverse teaching experiences, including different size classes, and different levels of post-secondary teaching. In addition, experience with curriculum design or review, educational leadership, or a documented commitment to professional development in the area of pedagogy will be considered a strength.

Applicants should possess a PhD or be near completion of a PhD program in the area of Psychology or Cognitive Science with significant graduate-level training in the area of Cognition or Cognitive Development. The area of specialization within Cognitive Psychology is open, but may include decision-making, memory, sensation & perception, language development, among others.
