Description
This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
The successful candidate will be offered a tenured or tenure-track appointment with the rank of Assistant Professor, which is in accordance with the Schedule A, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta invites applications for an Assistant Professor rank tenure track position in the area of sociocultural studies of physical activity. This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an innovative and robust externally-funded research program in sociocultural studies related to physical activity, sport, leisure or related areas. They will also be expected to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses (e.g. sociology of sport and leisure), supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and provide service to the Faculty and the University, as well as to professional and external communities. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching capacity and research programs that extend and complement current faculty member expertise and serve instructional needs in the Faculty.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Kinesiology, or a related field relevant to sociocultural studies of physical activity, sport, or leisure.
- Experience in effectively communicating research results, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference presentations.
- Ability to extend existing faculty research regarding sociocultural studies of physical activity and leisure and excel in filling instructional needs in sociology of sport and leisure courses
- Through both classroom teaching and mentorship, an ability to effectively engage post-secondary learners in curriculum and research topics relevant to sociocultural studies of physical activity and leisure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An ability to engage in impactful service related institutional operations, research, teaching, and/or access, community and belonging.
